iPod color display

Introduced: June 2005
Terminated: October 2005

Description

The iPod color display was available with either a 20 or 60Gb hard drive.  It supported FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 through the dock connector.  The screen was the same 2” 65,536 color LCD seen in the iPod photo.  It shipped with earbud headphones, an iPod USB power adaptor and a dock connector to USB 2.0 cable.

History

The iPod color display marked the point at which the iPod photo merged with the iPod line and replaced the grayscale screens.  Though they now sported color screens, the new models cost the same as the grayscale models.

The release of the iPod color display coincided iTunes being updated to 4.9, which was the release that added podcasting to iTunes and iPod.
